Writer / Deviser
As a writer- deviser I have been commissioned to write plays with a straight structure, create devised performances for professional tours and theatre stages using new text, existing or found material / text and I have also been asked to create new work for non - theatre spaces, disused buildings, subways and fields. (Site specific)
My most recent commission has been to research the history of Rotherham and write an up to date musical about Rotherham in ten evenings! The musical involved over 150 school children, a small main cast, a choir, an orchestra and brass band. This was directed by me visiting schools and meeting the main cast and the music was composed by Doctor Peter Birkby. The show was performed at Magna Science and Adventure centre 29th & 30th March 2017. The Director of Education in Rotherham is now using the script and DVD as stimulus for teachers to create schemes of work for their pupils in schools in Rotherham.
I have been funded to co- write a promenade, scary and participatory Halloween Ghost walk through woodland and for the last year, I co-wrote the highly successful town centre 'rother-howl' ghost walk for town centre Events team.
I am currently writing a murder mystery experience around an evening meal for the Mayor of Rotherham, to be executed at Rotherham town hall for 60 guests in Rotherham town centre. This is a package that can be rolled out and tailored for specific events and groups.
Alongside straight plays, site specific, experimental work and creative experience projects, I have been called upon to write educational pieces for young people and adults supported by educational resource packs for teachers or group leaders, including the 'Hearts of Steel' oral history project for which I designed an online and physical resource pack for teachers to use with children. I am currently in discussions for assisting in the delivery of training sessions for teachers on the Pioneer musical project and a new Roald Dahl project.
Finally, i have written short creative prose pieces and monologues for dramatic demonstrations, poetry readings and comedy sketches.
